Car Parking Spaces in Dee Why
The brief for this job was to create two car parking spaces in Dee Why unit block’s lawn area. Cars had been parking on the lawn and had left deep tyre ruts in the lawn and the lawn looked very unsightly.
The photo above shows the car spaces in Dee Why after 5 weeks. In time the grass will grow completely through the spaces. The car parking spaces will be useable year round in any weather.
The Car Parking Spaces in Dee Why job step by step
After consultation with the residents of the unit block we decided to use a product called Flo Cell (R). Flo Cell(R) is a plastic product, sold in units that clip together to form any size or shape. The units are 52 millimetres thick and hollow and they have supports inside the unit that make them very strong. When installed the units are filled with soil or gravel. The filling adds to their strength and also allows the grass to grow through them. When the grass grows through the units they blend well with the lawn area. The finished result is car spaces that look like the surrounding lawn area and support the weight of a car whether wet or dry and will never have wheel ruts in them.
The first job was to excavate the soil for the units to sit in.

The next step was joining the units to make the size needed to support a car. Then they were installed on a base of gravel.

The next step was to fill the units with soil. When this was done grass seed was sown into the top of the units. As seen in the photo above the units have many holes in the surface. These holes allow the grass to grow slightly below the top of the plastic units. When a car drives on the car space it only drives on the plastic and doesn’t squash and damage the grass. The grass can continue growing with cars driving over it regularly. Finally, Sir Walter Soft Leaf Buffalo turf was laid around each of the car spaces. This turf will grow into the car spaces over time, which will improve the appearance of these car parking spaces in Dee Why.
